Women Entrepreneurship: a precious opportunity

Gender equality and female entrepreneurship are key elements in economic development: data shows that the creation of new businesses, when led by women, is an essential element for the progress of countries. Indeed, the Foreign Ministers of many countries promote female entrepreneurship as a fundamental element of support for economic growth, which allows the identification of new markets and job opportunities.

Today, women own about 30% of global businesses and the number of women-owned enterprises is growing every year, despite societies are still characterized by forms of discrimination and gender inequality often leading to unequal market conditions.

Even though unfavorable social and cultural conditions, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor affirms that women can develop successful businesses, always pursuing new opportunities. Nevertheless, even today, there are global economies (about 45%) whose laws thwart women’s activity within the entrepreneurship market.

Underlining women’s innate entrepreneurial ability, some studies conducted in 2019 on companies led by men and others led by women show that, on average, businesswomen are better than men at obtaining funding through crowdfunding. The difference is due to several reasons such as the tone of voice used, the focus on positive impact issues using terms like “goals” and “better future” and inclusive language with the use of words like “we” and “together.”
